A local Monterey Peninsula rivalry took the field Tuesday as Pacific Grove defeated Carmel 6–2 in a pre-league matchup between neighboring programs.
The Breakers took control in the second inning when Grace Pottharst singled and two Carmel errors allowed three runs to score. Pacific Grove continued to apply pressure at the plate while keeping the Padres’ offense limited.
Pottharst set the tone at the top of the lineup with two hits, while she and Lyvia Maciel each drove in a run. Pacific Grove also showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks and playing clean defense without committing an error.
Alex Giammanco earned the win in the circle, striking out five over two and one-third innings. Maciel closed out the game to record the save as Pacific Grove secured the rivalry win.
