  The Santa Cruz High girls tennis team won the CIF State Academic Award with a perfect 4.00 grade point average. It’s the first time in 20 years a team has averaged a perfect GPA in Northern California, according to coach Thomas Silverstein.

  The top-seeded Cardinals fell 3-2 to No. 3 Live Oak on Saturday in the Central Coast Section Division III championships game. Both teams did all of their scoring in the sixth inning. Live Oak’s Matt Cummins pitched a complete game to get the win.

  The Aptos High baseball team lost its Central Coast Section Division III semifinal game to Los Altos 3-2 at San Jose Muni. The loss ends a run for team that has five players receiving NCAA Division I scholarships, many of whom played in the 2002 Little League World Series. More updates to come.
