The Santa Cruz High girls tennis team won the CIF State Academic Award with a perfect 4.00 grade point average. It’s the first time in 20 years a team has averaged a perfect GPA in Northern California, according to coach Thomas Silverstein.

The top-seeded Cardinals fell 3-2 to No. 3 Live Oak on Saturday in the Central Coast Section Division III championships game.
Both teams did all of their scoring in the sixth inning.
Live Oak’s Matt Cummins pitched a complete game to get the win.

San Lorenzo Valley’s Taylor Johnson and Aptos’ Janelle Coulter each brought in a first-place finish at the CCS Track Championships at Gilroy High School on Friday. Johnson finished the 1,600-meter race in 4 minute, 54.28 seconds and Coulter took the high jump, going 5 feet, 9 inches.

The Aptos High baseball team lost its Central Coast Section Division III semifinal game to Los Altos 3-2 at San Jose Muni. The loss ends a run for team that has five players receiving NCAA Division I scholarships, many of whom played in the 2002 Little League World Series.

San Lorenzo Valley fell to Stevenson in the semifinals of the Central Coast Section Division III softball playoffs.
Stevenson’s pitcher Caroline Main pitched a complete game two-hitter and struck out 13 batters.
SLV pitcher Samantha Lipperd struck out eight over six innings.
Stevenson will move on the finals and face the winner of Notre Dame Salinas and Notre Dame [...] -

The No. 1 seeded Cardinals defeated Pacific Grove 10-3 in the CCS baseball Division III Semifinals.
In the section finals, they will face the winner of No. 2 Menlo and No. 3 Live Oak who play tonight at 7 p.m. The final is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the San Jose Municiple Stadium.
