Monterey opened league play in dominant fashion Wednesday, defeating Pacific Grove 7–0 behind a huge performance from Denae Lee.
The Toreadores took an early lead in the second inning when Leah Haedrich brought home a run on a groundout, and Monterey added another in the third after Bella Berry drew a bases-loaded walk. The game broke open in the fourth when Lee launched a grand slam to right field, giving Monterey firm control.
Lee finished the day with four hits and five RBIs, adding an RBI double in the sixth to cap her standout performance. Jenna Deese and Anaiyah Brown also contributed multiple hits as Monterey totaled 10 hits in the win.
Nicole Seal was steady in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing six hits. Monterey backed the performance with clean defense, committing no errors in the victory.
