Nine-Run Fifth Powers Monte Vista Christian Past Santa Cruz 14–2 Monte Vista Christian broke the game open Tuesday with a massive nine-run fifth inning to defeat Santa Cruz 14–2. The Mustangs trailed early before evening the score in the third when Sophia Lopez brought home a run on a groundout. Monte Vista Christian then erupted in the fifth as Samantha Bertoldi started the surge with a two-run single, followed by run-scoring hits from Gianna Calomeni, Everly Macias, Ava Alvarado, and Sophia Lopez. Harper Ealy Whitby earned the win in the circle, striking out eight over four innings while allowing just one run. Addison Silva started the game and allowed only one hit over two innings. Monte Vista Christian finished with 11 hits, with Calomeni, Addison Boles, and Macias each collecting two.
