Santa Cruz battled early but couldn’t keep pace with Leigh in a 19–3 loss Saturday.
Leigh jumped ahead in the first inning when Sophia Hooper doubled in two runs before extending the lead in the second. The game broke open in the third as Leigh scored eight runs during a long rally to create separation.
Tezdyn Medina-Mates led Santa Cruz offensively, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Medina-Mates and Izzy Fetke each collected two hits as the Cardinals continued to produce at the plate.
Rona Lewis started in the circle for Santa Cruz and struck out six over three innings, while the Cardinals finished with five hits in the game.
