On January 28, 2010 the Scotts Valley Falcons played the St Francis Sharks at St Francis High School in Watsonville. The weather was cloudy while the field conditions were wet, muddy and sloppy. The Sharks entered the game with an overall record of 2 wins and 9 losses. Their record in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) was 0 wins and 5 losses. The Sharks have a very spirited and hard working team.

The game started out with both teams trying to adjust to the sloppy field conditions. In the 11th minute the Falcons Keara McCullough was fouled in the Sharks box. The Falcons scored on a penalty kick when Jordin Carlson knocked the ball into the net. The lady Falcons scored in the 13th minute when Emily Payne redirected a pass into the net after the assist from Kailey Payne. The Falcons scored again in the 28th minute when Ranae Maloney shot in a goal after the assist from Kailey Payne. The first half had the Falcons with 15 shots on goal while the Sharks had 1 shot on goal. The half ended with the score, Scotts Valley 3 to St Francis 0.

The second half started with both teams trying to mount an attack in the mud and standing water on the field. The Falcons scored in the 43rd minute when Jordin Carlson kicked the ball past the Sharks goalkeeper on a penalty kick after Emily Payne had been fouled in the Sharks box. The lady Falcons scored in the 50th minute when Keara McCullough fired in a goal on a breakaway after a long pass assist from Brittany Kuo. The Falcons scored again in the 60th minute when Brittany Kuo launched a beautiful kick into the top of the net after a free kick from approximately 35 yards out. The Falcons then scored when Keara McCullough fired in a shot after an assist from Jordin Carlson. The second half had the Falcons with 13 shots on goal while the Sharks had 0 shots on goal. The game ended with the score being, Scotts Valley 7 to St Francis 0.

The Falcon defense once again had a fantastic game stopping the Sharks attack, settling the ball and mounting a counter attack the entire game. The defense was led by senior captain Brittany Kuo, senior Kelsey Baskovich, sophomore Kalynn Morano and freshman Kacey Lilly. The goalkeeper, freshman Emily Johnson played very well and had 1 save during the game while registering her 8th shutout in a row this season. The lady Falcon defense has now had an awesome 9 shutouts in 12 games this season.

The Falcon midfielders played extremely well, controlled the possession of the ball and initiated countless attacks on the Sharks defense. The midfielders were led by senior captain Kailey Payne, sophomore captain Jordin Carlson, junior captain Aly Bothman, senior Amy McDowell, freshman Madison Black, sophomore Ranae Maloney and sophomore Kathryn Balch.

The Falcon forwards had a great day putting relentless pressure on the Sharks defense and making constant runs that drew their attention. The forwards were led by junior Keara McCullough, sophomore Emily Payne, senior Riley McFall and sophomore Taylor Rohde.

The Falcon ladies are now 9 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie overall this season. The Falcons are 5 wins and 0 losses in the SCCAL.
