On February 18, 2010 the Scotts Valley Falcons played the Soquel Knights at Soquel High School. The weather conditions were cloudy while the field conditions were excellent. The Knights entered the game with a season record of 5 wins, 6 losses and 1 tie. The Knights had a league record in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) of 3 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie. The Knights have a good team with a great defense and speedy offense.

The first half was played mostly in the middle of the field with both teams trying to get the advantage. Both defenses did a good job stopping the other teams advances and attempts on goal. The Falcons scored in the 31st minute when Emily Payne chipped in the goal after a good pass from Jordin Carlson. The first half had the Falcons with 3 shots on goal while the Knights had 1 shot on goal. The half ended with the score being, Scotts Valley 1 to Soquel 0.

The second half had more action with intensity and aggressive play. The Knights put pressure on the Falcon defense but they did not allow a goal. The Falcons put several scoring opportunities together but were stopped by the Knights defense. The second half had the Falcons with 4 shots on goal while the Knights had 4 shots on goal. The final score ended up being, Scotts Valley 1 to Soquel 0.

Having another solid performance was freshman goalkeeper Emily Johnson. Emily Johnson spoiled several attempts to score by the quick Knights forwards, had 5 saves and registered another shutout. Emily Johnson has had a phenomenal season playing 1388 minutes in goal, allowing 4 goals in 18 games, with a .231 Goals Allowed Average (GAA), registering 58 saves, 15 shutouts and not allowing a single goal this season in SCCAL competition.

The defensive backfield played spectacular once again while thwarting most of the Knights attacks all game. The defense was led by senior captain Brittany Kuo, senior Kelsey Baskovich, junior captain Aly Bothman, sophomore Kalynn Morano and freshman Kacey Lilly. Special kudos for a sterling game go to Emily Johnson and Brittany Kuo for anchoring the solid defensive effort. The superb play by the defense and goalkeeping has only allowed their competition 61 shots on the Falcon goal this season. This strong defense has kept the Falcons in all their games.

The Falcon midfielders played a strong competitive game. The midfielders worked extremely hard keeping pace with the Knights players and stopping their relentless assault. The midfielders were led by senior captain Kailey Payne, senior Amy McDowell, junior Aly Bothman, freshman Madison Black, sophomore Jaemi Mansfield, sophomore Ranae Maloney, sophomore Kathryn Balch and senior Michelle Hunter. Special kudos for having a good game go to Kailey Payne and Madison Black for their tireless effort of trying to mount an attack on the Knights defense.

The Falcon forwards played an aggressive game while constantly making runs on the Knights goal. The forwards were led by sophomore captain Jordin Carlson, sophomore Emily Payne, sophomore Taylor Rohde and senior Riley McFall. Special kudos for having a good game goes to Emily Payne and Jordin Carlson for giving an all out effort. The Falcon attack this season has registered 210 shots on the oppositions goal and scored 47 goals.

The young Falcons are now the SCCAL Champions for the 2009-2010 season. Congratulations for their success in a very competitive and talented league. The Falcons respect for the game, leadership, talent, passion, heart and team attitude brought them to the top. The Falcons finished their season with a record of 14 wins, 2 losses and 3 ties. The Falcons undefeated league record in the SCCAL was 10 wins, 0 losses and 2 ties. The Falcons look forward to the upcoming Central Coast Section (CCS) playoffs.
