St. Francis S.C.P. Notes and Quotes
On Monday, January 9th, the St. Francis Central Coast Catholic Sharks women's varsity basketball team traveled to Santa Cruz to take on the Harbor Pirates. After falling behind 9-4 early in the first quarter, the Sharks regrouped and began their comeback, building to a 35 - 27 lead at halftime and never looked back after that. Using aggressive defense, offensive rebounds and accurate shooting the Sharks jumped out to a 57 - 38 lead at the end of the third quarter and finished with a final score of 68- 46. The Sharks were led by Freshman center Katherine Brown who had only 4 points in the first half, scored 13 in the second half for a total of 17 and the high score of the game. Brown also had 13 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists. Also for the Sharks, Junior Nicole Smith had 12 points, 3 rebounds and an assist, Sophomore Annette Ruvalcaba had 10 points, 6 steals, 4 assists and a block, Junior Jessica Ryan went 2-2 from beyond the 3 point arc and finished with 9 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds, Junior Erin Laverone had 9 points on 9 for 10 shooting the free throw line to go along with 12 rebounds and an assist. Also scoring for the Sharks was Rochelle Welsh with 7 points and Jasmine Oliveres with 4 points. Scoring for Harbor was Molly Glasgow 13 and Olive Kersey with 16 points, Makenzie Collins with 9 points, Mimi McFadden with 6 points and Kelsey Wright with 2 points. The Sharks record in improves to 2-1 in the SCCAL and 8-5 overall. Their next opponent will be the Soquel Knights on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Borina Athletic Center.
