Scotts Valley Notes and Quotes
On February 26th, 2011 the Scotts Valley Falcons traveled to San Jose to play the Valley Christian Warriors at Valley Christian High School. The game was the Central Coast Section (CCS) D III Quarter Finals. Scotts Valley was the #1 seed while the Warriors were a #8 seed. The weather was cloudy, windy and cold while the field conditions were good.

The Warriors entered the playoffs with a season record of 10 wins, 6 losses and 5 ties while competing in the tough and talented West Catholic Athletic League. The Warriors are always very competitive, well coached and skilled.

The first half saw both teams coming out and trying to manage an attack. The Warriors started the game with the wind at their back. Most of the play was in the middle of the field with few shots on goal. The Warriors scored in the 20th minute when the Falcons defense miscommunicated and did not challenge a loose ball 10 feet infront of their goal. A Warrior player was able to get her foot on the ball and send a slow moving dribbler past the outstretched arms of the Falcon goalkeeper and into the goal. The Falcons regrouped and put pressure on the Warrior defense. The Falcons worked very hard, had most of the momentum but could not put the ball into the Warrior goal. The Warrior goalkeeper had to make several outstanding saves to prevent a Falcon goal. The first half had the Falcons with 4 shots on goal while the Warriors had 2 shots on goal. The half ended with the score being Warriors 1 to the Falcons 0.

The second half had the Falcons playing with the wind. The entire half the Falcons put pressure on the Warrior defense but the opposition bent but did not break down. The Falcons flooded their offensive side and put several shots around the goal but not on frame. The Falcons were challenging every ball in the air and on the ground. The Falcons gave a 100% effort towards generating a goal but it never happened. The second half had the Falcons with 2 shots on goal while the Warriors had 1 shot on goal. The game ended with the score being, Warriors 1 to Falcons 0.

The Falcon goalkeeping was again the work of sophomore Emily Johnson. Emily had a good solid game in goal.

The Falcon defense was once again steady and strong. The defense was led by senior captain Aly Bothman, junior captain Kalynn Morano, sophomore Kacey Lilly, sophomore Rachel DuBridge and freshman Megan Keating.

The midfielders for the Falcons had an inspiring game while working hard to create an attack all game. The midfielders were consistent at challenging everything in their area. The midfielders were led by sophomore Madison Black, freshman Lena Gustafsson, junior Ranae Maloney, junior Jessica Romeo, junior Kathryn Balch, sophomore Olivia Gonzalez and sophomore Rachel DuBridge.

The Falcon forwards had a good game putting forth a high energy attack that had the Warriors on their heals the entire game. The Falcon forwards were led by junior captain Jordin Carlson, junior captain Emily Payne, senior Aly Ayers, junior Taylor Rohde and senior captain Keara McCullough.

This loss is the final curtain call for the Falcons with their 2010-11 season. The young Falcons overcame adversity all season and competed with everyone. The Falcons were unable to overcome the Warriors early goal but they sure pressured their opponents all game. The Falcons finish their season with a record of 13 wins, 5 losses and 2 ties. The lady Falcons can be very proud of their season and hold their heads up high. The players have made lasting memories for themselves during this season and they can honestly say they left their all on the field.
