Pacific Grove Notes and Quotes
PG Upsets King City with a 4-0 win tonight.

PG came out strong and had 3 immediate scoring chances, of which John Sohn (jr) succeeded and scored 1 after 12 minutes after an assist by JT Salazar (sr). PG followed up with several more chances but was unable to score more in the 1st half. King City also had several good chances but PG's Goalie, Griffin Colangelo (sr) had several outstanding saves with the help from sweeper, Charles Amos and his defensive team. Left back Alex Hunt saved PG from a KC goal by diving on the line and heading the ball over an empty PG net. PG held KC to 1-0 at the half.

In the 2nd. Half, a motivated KC team took the field and fought hard for midfield control. After 10 minutes into the half, PG took control again, led by Matt Spade, captain and playmaker for PG. After several attacks, freshman Tariq Ahmad exploded on KC's defense and scored twice within two minutes in the 60th and 62 minute. Both goals were shots from outside the 18yd line (1st goal was an assist by John Sohn).

With 10 minutes to go, Matt Spade and John Sohn connected again with a drive down the right side and a long pass to John Sohn, who placed a header in the right corner over KC's goalie.

The field's most valuable player was Tariq Ahmad from PG who fought hard all game and played his best game thus far in MTAL play (7 MTAL games). Tariq has 4 goals for PG this season. John Sohn (Jr) is the leading scorer with 9 goals for PG. Matt Spade has 8 assists.

"The team played with a lot of heart today. They fought for every inch and made every tackle count. Several played stepped up when it counted and the result is a solid win over a well respected team and power house in soccer. Tonight's win is the biggest PG soccer win in recent history."

PG is 5-2 in MTAL (6-2 overall), with 19 goals and 10 against.

PG hosts Anzar on Wednesday at 5:30pm.
