Week 4 By The Numbers

46  Watsonville snapped SLV's 46 game league unbeaten streak (44-0-2 from 1995-2002) with a 24-18 victory over the Cougars in Felton. According to Cal-Hi Sports, SLV's league streak was the 9th longest in state history. Palma held the state's longest unbeaten streak (68-0 from 1988-1998) until it was eclipsed by Sylvan's 69-0 league mark just one year later in 1999.
17 A key factor in Gilroy and North Monterey County posting perfect 4-0 records has been turnovers: the Mustang defense has forced an area-best 17 turnovers via 9 interceptions and 8 fumble recoveries. North Monterey County has an area-best +8 turnover ratio.
Soledad travels to Harbor this week in what could turn out to be a defensive struggle: neither team has scored a point for 8 consecutive quarters. Harbor and Soledad have yet to score in the first-half this season.
Pacific Grove's Josh Granstrom has already matched his rushing touchdown output (8) from all of last season. The Breaker running back has now reached the 100 yard rushing mark for 3 consecutive weeks.
5 The T-CAL rolled to a 5-1 record vs. the MBL in the first week of inter-league play.
5 Just 5 teams remain undefeated going into week 5: Aptos, Watsonville, North Monterey County, Gonzales, and Gilroy.
5 5 teams posted shutouts in week 4: Hollister 14-0 over Seaside; King City 23-0 over Soledad; Palma 35-0 over Monterey; Gilroy 35-0 over Monte Vista Christian; Santa Cruz 40-0 over Harbor.
5 North Monterey County receiver Alex Doucet leads the area with 5 touchdown receptions. The Condors next opponent Palma has not allowed a passing touchdown this season. Expect large crowds at the Salinas Sports Complex this weekend with two marquee games: North Salinas hosts Seaside Friday night, and Palma hosts North Monterey County Saturday night.
