Week 10 Notes and Key Stats

  • Carmel enters the postseason as the #5 seed in Division 4. The Padre's last playoff appearance was in 1983, a year in which Carmel went 6-4 and won the MTAL title. Carmel lost a first round CCS Division 2 heartbreaker to SCCAL runner-up Harbor, 13-7.
  • Salinas enters postseason play as the  #4 seed in CCS Division 2 . The Cowboy's last playoff appearance was back in 1994, taking the MBL title and eventually the CCS D2 crown. In the championship game against Watsonville, Ray Lee returned a punt 82 yards for a game breaking touchdown in the 4th quarter, as the Cowboys beat the "Catz" 21-16.
  • Pacific Grove makes its first playoff appearance as the undisputed MTAL champion since 1977. In that era there were no playoff divisions, and the field consisted of 11 league champions and 5 at large teams battling for 1overall CCS title. Pacific Grove (9-1) faced MBL champ Salinas (9-1) in the first round and lost 28-0. Since 1977, the Breakers have gone 0-5 in the playoffs.
  • The Palma football program fell one game short of a perfect season. The loss to Hollister by the varsity left the Chieftains with a still impressive 29-1 record, with MBL titles claimed by the freshman, junior varsity and varsity squads.
  • We need game statistics for last week's Gilroy/Live Oak football game. Coaches, players or parents, please email information to results@mbaypreps.com or fax stats to (831) 754-1642.
