Week 11 Notes and Key Stats

  • Pacific Grove's win over Burlingame was only the second Breaker playoff victory since the inception of the CCS in 1972. Pacific Grove's first win came back in 1974 in a first round showdown with MBL champion Soquel at Monterey Peninsula College. A crowd of 8000+ watched Gary Nair, one of the greatest athletes to come out of Pacific Grove High, score 5 touchdowns in a 51-33 victory over the Knights. Nair had touchdown runs of 6, 71, 18, and 1 yard, and caught a 63 yard touchdown pass from another Pacific Grove legend, Bobby Pappas. Pacific Grove ended up losing to Awalt 26-8 in a semifinal game played at Spartan stadium (credit to www.cifccs.org for their extensive on-line CCS playoff history).
  • Wilcox averaged 1.62 yards per play on offense against Salinas, while allowing 11 yards per play on defense. Wilcox ran the ball 36 times and only managed 72 yards.
  • Palma has won 4 consecutive D1 playoff games with a combined margin of victory of 10 points (7-6 over Bellarmine, 14-10 over Valley Christian, 15-14 over Oak Grove, 26-22 over Milpitas).  Palma is pursuing its 9th CCS football title.
  • We need complete game statistics for last week's Hollister/Piedmont Hills football game. Coaches, players or parents, please email information to results@mbaypreps.com or fax stats to (831) 754-1642.
